Driver and Traffic Safety Education involves all those learning experiences provided for the purpose of helping students learn to use motor vehicles safely, efficiently, and effectively. This objective is achieved through sequences of interrelated experiences involving both classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction. NC Law requires 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. The Cumberland County Schools offer Driver Education after school hours during the Fall and Spring semesters and two summer sessions are offered annually. Check Dates to Remember for the dates that the sessions will be offered for the coming school year. The practical or behind-the-wheel phase of the course is offered after school hours and/or on Saturday during the school year and concurrent with the classroom phase in the summer.

Are you a Disney Dreamer and Doer? Do you know someone who is?
Then participate for a chance to be selected as your school’s Dreamer and Doer!
In 400 words or less, answer the following question:
What is a positive action you have taken, or a student has taken, to improve the community, home or school? What inspired this action?
Click the link below for the Disney Dreamer and Doer handout.
All essays must be turned in to Mrs. Gonell in the front office by 5:00pm on Friday, March 9, 2018, to be considered.
Disney Dreamer and Doer Handout
What is this? Dreamers and Doers recognizes students who inspire others in a variety of ways - helping siblings, improving their grades, demonstrating kindness - any good deed qualifies!
Who can submit a nomination and when? Students may self-nominate, or be nominated by a teacher, counselor or peer.
How do I submit a nomination? Submit nominations to Mrs. Gonell by 5pm on Friday, March 9, 2018.
What happens next? Once Disney receives all the names of the selected Dreamers and Doers, they will select three students to be the county's "Shining Stars".
What's in it for students? Why should they apply or nominate a student? The Dreamers and Doers program is an opportunity for students to express pride in their accomplishments, or to discover how they inspire others. Disney will reward these accomplishments - big or small: 1) The Dreamer and Doer selected at each school receives 4 park tickets and 2) Those selected as "Shining Stars" receive an annual pass for themselves and each member of their immediate family, and their school principal will receive 10 park tickets to benefit the school.
